An open and affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ

Serve Our Community

COVID-19 has impacted our ability to reach out to the community. However, we have made as many accommodations as possible in order to assure everyone’s safety. Please see details below.

Heavenly Threads, located next to the church on Elm Street, is our thrift shop selling gently used clothing and household items. All profits are donated to area nonprofit organizations. Be part of this ministry by donating items, volunteering your time, and shopping at Heavenly Threads.

Mask wearing is mandatory and a limited number of shoppers will be allowed in the store at any one time. Thank you for helping to keep us all safe.

Current store hours, contact and donation information here. Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Heavenly-Threads-Thrift-Shop-155993211242214

The SOS Room is open on Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. to provide free clothing to needy families. It is located to the rear of the Heavenly Threads building. Parking is available in the church lot.

During the pandemic all clothing etc. will be displayed out of doors. Masks are required as well as social distancing while perusing items. More information on Facebook.

Established as an outreach ministry of the church, the Shields Mission Project provides assistance to individuals and families in Knox County who are in financial crisis. As a referral-based program, we work with many Knox County social service organizations/case managers who are advocating for individuals in need of financial assistance. More information here.

Soup’s On! (Due to the pandemic Soup’s On has been canceled for the 2020-2021 year.) A free soup lunch is prepared and served here at the church by volunteers each Wednesday at noon from October through March. 2019 was the 15th year of providing this service to our community. Our guests have the choice of either a meat or vegetable soup prepared right in our kitchen, fresh bread and a homemade dessert. Guest musicians entertain us before and after the meal. Watch for us late in 2021 as we look to re-open when safe to do so.

Camden Area Christian Food Pantry is an all-volunteer organization supported by our church and 4 other area churches. It is located at 128 Mt. Battie Street, Camden and is open on Tuesdays, 8 – 11 a.m. and on Thursdays, 4 – 6 p.m.

Thanksgiving Baskets and Christmas Dove Tree Donations are collected and given to needy families. We work in concert with Camden/Rockport schools to determine recipients.

Thanksgiving Dinner welcomes anyone in the community to a lovely holiday meal (no cost, donations accepted). Please call the church office for date and time and to reserve a place at the table.

Prayer Chain Individuals are held in prayer by a large group of volunteers who communicate through email on a strictly confidential basis. For more information please contact the church office.

Volunteer prayer shawl knitters

Prayer Shawl Knitting Volunteer knitters create and distribute prayer shawls to anyone in need of comfort and prayer while our prayer shawl "angels” provide funding for the yarn we use. Over 650 of our shawls have found homes from the mid-coast to the west coast and across the globe. For more information call the church office.
