New Minister of Music Hired


Camden, Maine – The First Congregational Church of Camden recently announced that Matthew Mainster has been hired to serve as the Minister of Music, commencing with worship services on Sunday, January 3, 2016.  
 
A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Matt has been a resident of Rockport, Maine for just over a year now. He is extremely pleased to find work in his profession so close to his new home, saying, "Accepting the Minister of Music position at First Congregational Church of Camden is a dream come true, and I look forward to working with the staff and the congregation in this beautiful coastal community.”
 
In addition to playing the organ and piano during worship services, Mainster will lead the church choirs, noting, "The church has a wonderful tradition of choral and handbell music over the years, and I am so eager to take part in this legacy.”  
 
Rich Anderson, Co-President of the Church, noted, "Matt is a very talented organist and pianist who brings enthusiasm for building ensemble and a desire to create music that enhances the worship experience. We are very pleased to welcome him to the First Congregational Church.”  
 
Tony Bates, Co-President of the Church, also explained, "Matt will be responsible for coordinating the church’s special music programming and working with the members of our music committee to present the Friends of Music concert series.” 
 
Matt received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Organ Performance, Piano Performance and Sacred Music from Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania. He went on to earn a Master of Music in Organ Performance from the Yale School of Music in New Haven, Connecticut. Matt has held Director of Music and/or Organist positions at several churches in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. Most recently he served as Director of Music for the Oak Crest Protestant Community in Parkville, Maryland. 
 
Since living in Rockport, Matt has volunteered with Bay Chamber Concerts, and he hopes to offer private instruction for students of piano and organ in the coming year.
