First Congregational UCC hosts Summer Reading Groups
New York Times columnist, David Brooks, just published The Second Mountain: The Quest for a Moral Life. In times of ever greater social fragmentation, Brooks features the stories of many people who have courageously chosen to live interdependent and loving lives. He sees such living as the invitation and task of "The Second Mountain" which follows on our initial and often individual quests (First Mountain) to establish ourselves, our families and careers. Brooks challenges us to embrace a deeper calling and discern clear commitments in regards to our partner and family, our vocation, a philosophy for life or faith, and our community. In order to have enough room for going deeper in our discussion, two separate groups will meet to read and discuss the book over the summer. The two groups:
Wednesdays, from 5:00-6:30 pm (with optional dinner outing afterward), June 26, July 3, July 10, July 17, August 14, August 28
Thursdays, from 1:00-2:30 pm, June 27, July 11, July 18, August 15, August 22, August 29
Please be prepared to discuss the Introduction and Part I on the first date.
Come and join us! Please email Ute at email@example.com if you would still like to join in.
